Description

The primary responsibility of the Lab Specialties Quality Tester is to test process unit, water outfall and finished product samples.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Analysis of: laboratory standards and monitors, in-line process grab samples, finished product samples, outfall water samples

  • Documentation of regulatory data from the analysis

  • Coordination of sample pickup with environmental laboratory personnel

  • Generation of data analysis reports

  • Several maintenance and housekeeping responsibilities including:

  • Disposing of remaining sample bottles

  • Restocking supplies to include: solvents, gloves, samples bottles, filters

  • Maintaining lab equipment

  • Maintain a clean and contaminant-free work area

  • Accurate and timely completion of sample testing

  • Responsible for entering the data into the computer in a timely manner so that the respective unit can make the proper adjustments if needed

  • Assist chemist(s) with instrument commissioning, calibrations and troubleshooting

  • Assist with development of new testing procedures and methods

Position Requirements

Basic/Required :

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • 36 hours of college credit in a science, engineering or technology field

  • A minimum of 12 hours of college-level chemistry

  • Basic math and analytical skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Power Point)

  • Must be willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Information can be found at https://twicprogram.tsa.dhs.gov/TWICWebApp/.

Preferred :

  • Associate's degree or higher in a science or technical field (such as a BS in Chemistry)

  • 2+ years of laboratory experience

  • Working knowledge of EPA water lab practices and protocols

  • Well versed in laboratory and refinery safety procedures

The Lake Charles Refinery is located in Westlake, Louisiana. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. Facilities also include a specialty coker and calciner. The refinery processes a mixture of light to heavy, low- and high sulfur and low- and high-acid crude oils. It receives domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil through truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals, including the Beaumont and Clifton Ridge terminals and the Bayou Bridge Pipeline. Lake Charles produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include off-road diesel, home heating oil, feedstock for our Excel Paralubes joint venture, specialty graphite petroleum coke and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed in the southeastern and eastern United States by truck, rail car, barge or pipelines and exported to Latin America and West Africa.
