Description

Welders work in a maintenance team and report to the Welder Supervisor. The position is a primarily straight day job, subject to mandatory shift work, call outs and overtime. Welders are responsible for the fabrication and repair of piping, structures, and pressure vessels in the refinery, terminals, and other outlying areas of the Sweeny Refinery.

Position Requirements

The Welder may be responsible for:

  • Work safely at all times and adopt company core values around safe work and behaviors

  • Learn, observe, and follow safe work practices

  • Learn and follow P66 policies and procedures.

  • Operates equipment within the safe operating criteria.

  • All welding processes required (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW). This includes print reading and fit up for fabrication

  • Work at various heights

  • Listen and follow instructions

  • Communicate orally and in writing with other team members, leaders and operations personnel

  • Use a variety of safety and personal protective equipment

  • Work overtime, shift work and weekends as required

  • Work out of craft and with other crafts as needs dictate

  • Pass all qualification test, both written and practical, as administered by the Sweeny Refinery training team

Required

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • Ability to work outside in an oil refinery environment; enter and work in confined spaces; climb ladders and towers; and wear Personal Protective Equipment including fall protection and respiratory protection

  • Bend, lift 50lbs, climb stairs, and perform a wide range of physical activities related to job duties

  • Ability to understand and carry out work direction in a safe manner

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions

Preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years of welding experience in a refinery or chemical plant environment

  • Certification – Welding

  • Good oral and written communication skills pertaining to documenting inspection and repair information

The Sweeny Refinery is located in Old Ocean, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization, and aromatics units, as well as access to the on-site vacuum tower and delayed coking unit, which is an asset owned by Phillips 66 Partners. Sweeny processes heavy, high-sulfur crude oil and some light, low sulfur crude oil. Domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil is transported by truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, heating oil and petroleum coke. The refinery receives crude oil by pipeline and via tankers, through terminals on the Gulf Coast, including a deepwater terminal at Freeport. Refined products are distributed throughout the Midcontinent region, southeastern and eastern United States by pipeline, barge and rail car. Refined products are also exported to Latin America by waterborne cargo.
