Pipefitters work in a maintenance team and report to the Maintenance Area Supervisor. The position is a primarily straight day job, subject to mandatory shift work, call outs and overtime. Pipefitters are responsible for preventative maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and maintenance of refinery equipment, piping, valves, and tubing.
Responsibilities May Include

Install and remove blinds
Climb, bend, lift and perform a wide range of physical activities

Use a variety of safety and personal protective equipment
Respond to callouts for afterhours work
Work overtime, shift work and weekends as required
Work out of craft and with other crafts as needs dictate
Pass all qualification tests, both written and practical, as administered by the Sweeny Refinery training team
Ability to use power and hand tools, such as saws, pipe threading machines, chain hoists, impact wrenches, torque wrenches, grinders and drills
Responsible for setting up work site with barriers or signs, flags rigging equipment, assists welders and accurately interprets drawings, sketches, and job orders
Ability to maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven
18 or more years of age
Valid Texas driver’s license
High School Diploma or GED equivalent
Ability to work outside in an oil refinery environment; enter and work in confined spaces; climb ladders and towers, and wear Personal Protective Equipment including fall protection and respiratory protection
Able to operate motor vehicles
Able to carry out work direction in direction in a safe manner
Lift and transport up to 60 pounds
Climb and retrieve parts or make repairs from various heights
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country on a regular full-time basis without restrictions
3 years of experience in a refinery or chemical plant environment
3 years of experience in the pipe fabrication
5 years of experience in a refinery or chemical plant environment
The Sweeny Refinery is located in Old Ocean, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization, and aromatics units, as well as access to the on-site vacuum tower and delayed coking unit, which is an asset owned by Phillips 66 Partners. Sweeny processes heavy, high-sulfur crude oil and some light, low sulfur crude oil. Domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil is transported by truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, heating oil and petroleum coke. The refinery receives crude oil by pipeline and via tankers, through terminals on the Gulf Coast, including a deepwater terminal at Freeport. Refined products are distributed throughout the Midcontinent region, southeastern and eastern United States by pipeline, barge and rail car. Refined products are also exported to Latin America by waterborne cargo.
