Description

Our process engineering roles offer the opportunity to develop knowledge and experience and work on real issues. Our engineers will be challenged and stretched, but also be supported and trusted every step of the way, whilst gaining the relevant experience for chartered engineer status.

As a Process Engineer at the Humber Refinery, you will be expected to combine your excellent technical skills with a well-developed practical awareness to contribute to the success of the business. Primary responsibilities will include providing technical support to refinery operations, providing engineering evaluation in the screening of potential projects and producing process designs for approved projects. The primary focus is on safe operations, long term reliability and unit performance followed by short term opportunities and yield or energy optimisation.

Responsibilities May Include

The Process Engineer may be responsible for:

  • Providing process engineering support and expertise to the refinery operations

  • Performing process design work on projects

  • Generating ideas to optimise plant and energy /utility usage

  • Troubleshooting and problem solving as required

  • Carry out and review plant modifications and associated risk assessments.

  • Regularly review unit process engineering information and ensure that all documents and procedures are kept up to date.

  • Provide additional process engineering support to unit turn around activity and start-ups.

  • Coaching operations to ensure process safety issues are addressed as part of design and operational processes.

  • Strong, demonstrable SHE and process safety leadership within the office environment and onsite.

Position Requirements

You are comfortable and adaptable to working in new and changing environments. You are organised and self-motivated, with a good attention to detail and keen to deliver the best solution for the refinery.

You have a background in Oil & Gas or Petrochemical process engineering with the following qualifications and most of the experience:

• The legal right to live and work in the UK on a permanent basis without restrictions.

• Achieved a minimum 2:1 in a Chemical Engineering discipline degree

• Working towards or achieved Chartered Engineer status with the Institute of Chemical Engineers or equivalent

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Experience in feasibility, concept selection and front-end engineering studies

• Experience performing standard process engineering calculations and developing technical reports

• Project engineering skills to ensure studies and projects are delivered within agreed budgets and schedules

• Understanding of relevant safety and environmental industry regulations.

• Knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards.

The Humber Refinery is located on the east coast of England in North Lincolnshire, United Kingdom, approximately 180 miles north of London. Humber's facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, hydrodesulfurization, thermal cracking and delayed coking units. The refinery has two coking units with associated calcining plants, which produce high-value graphite and anode petroleum cokes. It processes crude oil supplied primarily from the North Sea and includes light, low- and medium-sulfur and acidic crude oil. Humber produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. It is the only coking refinery in the United Kingdom, and a major producer of specialty graphite cokes and anode coke. Approximately 70 percent of the light oils produced by the refinery are distributed to customers in the United Kingdom by pipeline, rail car and truck, while the other products are exported to the rest of Europe, West Africa and the United States.
