The Laboratory Technician performs Quality Control inspection of all incoming raw materials, in-process production, and manufactured products using laboratory instruments to ensure products meet required specification. The Laboratory Technician ensures customer contracts are met from a Quality and Customer Service focus. Occasional overtime and holiday work may be required. Technicians are also responsible for maintaining and operating the equipment used in testing and analysis as well as all associated documentation and paperwork.
Responsibilities May Include
Performing analytical quality control on all incoming, in-process and final of raw materials and finished products to ensure specification guidelines are met. Including:
Performing required ASTM or Proprietary test method.
Determining instrument reliability, instrument capabilities, and instrument performance.
Managing overall Lab operations, which includes:
Performing required calibrations test as per the quality program.
Ordering and maintaining all laboratory operating supplies and spare parts.
Performing Repeatability studies per MSA on lab equipment in service, to determine appropriate competency level.
Ensuring appropriate records are kept on all lab equipment.
Maintaining all documentation (i.e. Procedures, Work Instructions, etc.)
Identifying, documenting & performing maintenance of all equipment.
Lab blends, reporting, pulling & shipping of requested samples.
Reviewing and validating all procedures and documents for your area.
Serving on one of the site core teams.
Managing own training requirements.
Reporting Environmental, Safety, Quality near misses and incidents.
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
High School diploma or G.E.D.
Intermediate level of proficiency in Microsoft Office
Willing and able to work extended hours and/or shift work.
Willing and able to lift 40 lbs and climb stairs/ladders
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry
Previous laboratory experience
Knowledge of ASTM Methodology
Mindset to work safely and lead by example.
Customer focus – Internal and External.
Knowledge of lab equipment, terminology and standard laboratory procedures.
Direct experience with the various categories of analysis methodology such as: Spectrophotometric/Colorimetric analysis, Gravimetric methods, UVF/Chemiluminescence
Experience troubleshooting analytical instrumentation
Ability to make decisions in the absence of supervision
Skillful in oral/written communications, teamwork and leadership
Good problem-solving skills
Occasionally work outdoors and be exposed to weather elements.
Knowing and observing safe work practices including wearing Personal Protective Equipment.
Organizational and planning skills
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
