The Corrosion Specialist provides technical support to the regional corrosion control team for the Western Region Pipeline and Terminal Assets. The Corrosion Specialist, under the general direction of the Corrosion Supervisor, analyzes and interprets field data, works with the Corrosion and Integrity Group to recommend correctional measures, implement corrosion initiative programs, scope capital projects, and prepare and participate in internal and regulatory audits to ensure compliance with local, state and federal requirements.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Timely completion of DOT CP surveys and rectifier and bond inspections.

  • QA/QC data entry in PCS database; utilizing PCS to record, monitor and evaluate CP data.

  • Analyzing field data, working with Integrity and corrosion engineers to identify problem areas and recommend solutions by corelating CP and other field inspection data with ILI run reports.

  • Supporting and guiding corrosion technicians in complex field testing (interference study, DCVG/ACVG and PCM) and troubleshooting for CP deficiencies.

  • Responsible for the WR CP 5-yr plan, scoping anode bed replacements and recommending addition of new CP systems.

  • Leading ground bed failure mode analysis and life expansion initiative.

  • Supporting implementation of the internal corrosion control program, risk ranking facility piping and coordinating testing and inspection.

  • Utilizing the established Corrosion Coupon database to record, monitor and evaluate internal corrosion data.

  • Evaluating maintenance pigging program and gauging efficiency. Reviewing pigging report and recommending change/deviation of the pigging frequency.

  • Actively participating in regulatory and corporate audits, serving as key resource and expert in DOT/OPS and other agency investigations/audits.

  • Mentoring corrosion technicians on new technologies & policies and weighing in on technically challenging issues.

  • Supporting IMP data analysis and assessments.

  • Supporting Pipeline Integrity Programs.

  • Participating with teams in the corrosion function regarding best practices and compliance issues.

  • Achieving certification through technical experience, education, examinations, and references.

  • Annually maintaining certification through professional activities and responding to emergencies as requested.

Position Requirements


  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Associate’s degree or higher

  • 5 or more years of direct corrosion control experience on pipeline or similar assets

  • NACE CP Technician (CP II) or higher certification

  • Working knowledge of DOT 195 (49 CFR 195)

  • Proficiency in SAP, CPDM or other Cathodic Protection Data Management systems

  • Ability to read and understand CIS, DCVG, ACVG, PCM, and other forms of CP data

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word and Outlook software

  • Walking ability on even and uneven terrains

  • Using hand and power tools

  • Driving vehicles on public streets, highways and in private facilities

  • Working alone a high percentage of time

  • Raising and transporting supplies and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs.

  • Climbing to the top of tanks and other facility assets

  • Understanding and using work equipment manuals and maps

  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC); information can be found at


  • Associate’s degree or higher in Corrosion Technology, Pipeline Integrity or a related field

  • 7 or more years of direct corrosion control experience on pipeline or similar assets

  • NACE CP III and/or other NACE specialist level certifications

  • Working knowledge of metallurgy, failure analysis and/or API 571

  • Working knowledge of Pipeline & Terminals Operations

  • 1 or more years of experience actively participating in DOT 195 Regulatory Audits
