Basic Function
Humber Refinery produces between 450 and 500,000 MT of various grades of calcined and green cokes and fines. The markets for the non-needle cokes have historically comprised of the aluminium, titanium dioxide and recarburiser industries together with some speciality outlets. Green coke markets are toll calcining, calciner feedstock and fuel. Whilst these markets continue to provide opportunities, we are witnessing demand growth for these products, into the growing battery market as EV supply chains become established.
The Product Manager is a member of a global team charged with the responsibility of placing cokes into markets, across all regions, working closely with colleagues here in London and also those based in Houston and Beijing. The Product Manager would seek, develop, secure and maintain profitable international markets for all of Humber’s non-needle coke production by negotiating sale agreements to maximise the return on Humber’s coking assets.
Primary Accountabilities/Responsibilites
Using a strong working knowledge of the end user markets, identify new opportunities, enhance competitiveness and ensure optimum placement of Humber’s non-needle coke products.
Use stakeholder management approach to customer relationships, working as a trusted partner.
Negotiate competitive sales contracts and run tenders, managing all commercial aspects of those sales
In co-ordination with the Humber Coke Business Team, develop marketing plans and manage any technical or quality issues with customers.
Ensure that coke production and marketing activities are co-ordinated and optimised within the constraints of the long-term refinery and coke marketing strategies. Contribute to the development of Humber’s strategy.
Actively engage with industry bodies and publishers of industry news to maintain up-to-date market knowledge and insights
Liaise with Phillips 66 Hamburg personnel for the marketing of anode grade coke from the MiRO Refinery.
Collaborate with Speciality Petroleum Coke in Houston for the marketing of non-needle cokes produced in the US to ensure effective global co-ordination.
Produce management reports as required
Critical Skills/Leadership Criteria
Hold the legal right to to live and work in the UK on a permanent basis without restrictions, or meet the relevant criteria for employer sponsorship under the UK point-based immigration system.
Bachelors Degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited college or university
Relevant experience in a refining, commercial or marketing environment.
Demonstrated ability to form long term commercial relationships and negotiate contracts that deliver optimum results to the company.
Stature to interact at senior levels.
Drives for excellence in customer relations
Demonstrated ability to exert influence across a wide range of functions and businesses.
Flexibility to adapt to changing situations.
Good communicator (written / oral / presentational).

Phillips 66 has significant marketing operations in Europe. In the UK the business is primarily wholesale, selling fuels to distributors (some of whom are branded JET) and resellers. The fuels are either collected by customers or delivered through a contracted road tanker fleet operating out of a number of UK distribution points. In addition, Phillips 66 Limited supplies a network of approximately 330 independently owned petrol forecourts, all of which are branded JET.
Other markets served are aviation, marine and LPG. JET supplies some of the UK's growing secondary airports using owned and shared refuelling tankers and storage, and delivers to airlines through contracted refuelling operations. Marine markets are served using contracted vehicles, as is the LPG business.
