Reporting functionally to Director, Global Demurrage, the Demurrage Analyst is responsible for the accurate and timely review, negotiation and settlement of demurrage claim activities associated with marine voyages in order to mitigate operational delays and Phillips 66’s overall demurrage exposure. The Senior Demurrage Analyst shall provide Commercial Marine, Supply & Trading with professional guidance on demurrage matters and work with Contract Administration to review and optimize contract language in respect of Laytime and Demurrage wordings, terms and conditions. The incumbent will support Phillips 66 initiatives to reduce demurrage exposure across company functions and locations by capturing and reporting demurrage root causes and driving continuous improvements on identified operational issues.
Ensures strong coordination and effective cost management of voyage related claim matters with consistent communications with internal stakeholders and external counterparties.
Evaluate Charter Party and Commercial Agreements to identify, analyze, negotiate, and effectively settle any/all demurrage claims owed to Phillips 66 or filed against Phillips 66 (A/R and A/P).
Ensure all claims are entered into system of record (IMOS) in a timely manner and all claim documents are archived (LiveLink) in a timely manner.
Prepare and distribute monthly and ad hoc demurrage reports.
Ensure compliance with contractual terms and conditions to avoid time bar constraints.
Identify improvement opportunities for reduction of demurrage overall exposure by engaging commercial and downstream stakeholders through cross-functional trainings, regular meetings and discussions to facilitate understanding of contracts terms & conditions and encourage ownership of marine provisions.
Develop and maintain trust relationships with both internal stakeholders and external counterparties to create an environment of equitable resolution of demurrage issues.
Understand and support claims accrual process with cross-functional stakeholders.
Maintain compliance with Phillips 66 values, policies, authority limits, SOX and all business controls.
Bachelor degree (or equivalent, maritime or technical degree preferred) and/or three years’ experience in the Commercial or Commercial Marine area.
Strong analytical skills, with a good understanding of main financial / economic principles.
Good understanding of contracts, charter parties, and key laytime and demurrage provisions and the terminology associated with the petroleum industry, marine and terminal operations, commercial commodities, for both ships and barges.
Good understanding of various deal types, e.g. FOB, C&F, CIF and the impact of demurrage cost and recovery on deal profitability.
Self-motivated, takes ownership & accountability in driving resolution of problems in a safe and effective manner.
Excellent communication and team effectiveness skills with the ability to lead and collaborate with diverse and cross functional work groups.
Strong facilitation, planning and organization, and analytical skills. Ability to multi-task, independently research matters arising and proactively advising the business on potential issues and requests
Ability to effectively influence and negotiate prudent settlements
Strong computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to adapt to systems such as SAP BI Business Warehouse - Reporting Module, IMOS, LiveLink, etc.
Phillips 66 has significant marketing operations in Europe. In the UK the business is primarily wholesale, selling fuels to distributors (some of whom are branded JET) and resellers. The fuels are either collected by customers or delivered through a contracted road tanker fleet operating out of a number of UK distribution points. In addition, Phillips 66 Limited supplies a network of approximately 330 independently owned petrol forecourts, all of which are branded JET.
Other markets served are aviation, marine and LPG. JET supplies some of the UK's growing secondary airports using owned and shared refuelling tankers and storage, and delivers to airlines through contracted refuelling operations. Marine markets are served using contracted vehicles, as is the LPG business.
