The Process Engineer provides process technical expertise and services focused on enhancing the safety, reliability and profitability of the process units. This position interfaces with all departments throughout the refinery including operations, maintenance, optimization, and technical services.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Developing, monitoring, and evaluating unit performance metrics and maintaining effective monitoring reports.

  • Troubleshooting operational and process quality problems.

  • Generating and implementing ideas / opportunities for unit optimization.

  • Generating process design improvement projects for strategic and real business improvement.

  • Participating as required in major project activities.

  • Providing technical content for operating procedures.

  • Completing process hazard analysis and process safety management requirements, including the completion of action items.

  • Ensuring full management of change compliance with all activities.

  • Supporting catalyst management activities.

  • Maintaining assigned process safety information.

  • Providing guidance to operations consistent with environmental and operational requirements.

  • Assisting in preparation of and maintaining capital and operating expense budget.

  • Interfacing with Licensors for technical support.

  • Support unit turnarounds including work list identification/justification, procedure writing and reviews, equipment inspection (from operations perspective), etc.

  • Day-to-day support of their respective operating unit to meet short- and long-term operating plans and the refinery business plan.

Required Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • 3 or more years of direct experience in refining and/or the chemical industry

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering

  • Demonstrated knowledge of industrial safe work practices and standards

  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Information can be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understands and uses functional expertise to contribute to the success of the business

  • Ability to establish work priorities based on greatest business needs

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to effectively interact and work in a team environment

  • Experience with process simulation programs

  • Computer proficient, including applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and process database systems (PI)

The Lake Charles Refinery is located in Westlake, Louisiana. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrocracking, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. Facilities also include a specialty coker and calciner. The refinery processes a mixture of light to heavy, low- and high sulfur and low- and high-acid crude oils. It receives domestic, Canadian and other foreign crude oil through truck, pipeline, marine transportation and terminals, including the Beaumont and Clifton Ridge terminals and the Bayou Bridge Pipeline. Lake Charles produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include off-road diesel, home heating oil, feedstock for our Excel Paralubes joint venture, specialty graphite petroleum coke and petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed in the southeastern and eastern United States by truck, rail car, barge or pipelines and exported to Latin America and West Africa.
