Phillips 66 is seeking a Metallurgical / Corrosion Engineer for an early to mid-career level developmental role. The position will partner with subject matter experts, providing engineering support to refining sites in the areas of metallurgy, corrosion, coatings, welding and pressure vessel design within the refining sector. Will advise on the selection and fabrication of materials, corrosion control and maintaining integrity of pressure retaining systems. Will perform fitness for service evaluation and risk-based analysis of pressure containing equipment. The overall knowledge gained of Phillips 66 and its subsidiaries from your liaison with the operating and staff groups provides with an excellent opportunity to develop and implement a successful career path.
Your initial assignment will be within Refining Business Improvement group in Houston, TX. Responsibilities may involve some travel or possibly temporary assignments at various Phillips 66 or contractor locations around the world. Individuals must be willing to travel and/or relocate.
Responsibilities May Include
Providing practical, economical solutions to metallurgical, corrosion, and welding problems that arise in the Refinery.
Assuring compliance with codes, State Safety Orders, Required Standards, and Industry Practices required in the construction and/or repair of pressure vessels, piping and other pressure containing equipment.
Conducting failure investigations and corrosion studies on systems and equipment.
Reviewing and/or specifying material selections, welding, NDE, heat treatment, and coating requirements proposed for new construction, repairs and metallurgical upgrades of facilities.
Developing Risk Based Inspection assessments, Reliability Operating Limits, and Corrosion Control Documents to improve corrosion management within refinery mechanical integrity programs.
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering
Must maintain a valid driver’s license
Must be willing and able to relocate
Must be willing and able to wear Nomex fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear, and eye protection)
Must be willing and able to maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)
Must be willing and able to lift and transport materials, bend, stoop, perform moderate manual labor, work in confined spaces, climb, and work at various levels above the ground
Must be willing and able to work outdoors and possibly in inclement weather conditions
Knowledgeable in requirements of ASME B31.3, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Sections I, V, VII, and IX, and API Inspection Codes 510, 570, and 653
Knowledgeable in damage mechanisms that affect refinery equipment including fundamentals of corrosion, basic forms of corrosion, and methods of corrosion control
Knowledgeable in performing remaining life and fitness for service evaluations
Knowledgeable in risk-based inspection methodologies and how to utilize the methodologies
Knowledgeable in failure investigation methodologies and problem-solving principles
Proficient with computer applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and SAP
