The Process Engineer provides process technical expertise and services focused on enhancing the safety, reliability and profitability of the Borger Refinery. This position interfaces with all departments throughout the refinery including operations, maintenance, planning, and technical services.

The successful candidate will be assigned to either provide process engineering support of refinery operations or develop process design packages for the capital project team.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Generating process design improvement projects for strategic and real business improvement

  • Participating as required in major project activities

  • Monitoring / evaluating unit performance and maintaining effective monitoring reports

  • Troubleshooting operational and process quality problems

  • Generating ideas / opportunities for unit optimization, including projects

  • Providing technical content for operating procedures

  • Cross functionally driving process engineering support for small and large capital projects at all stages from FEL 0, 1, 2, 3

  • Completing process hazard analysis and process safety management requirements, including the completion of action items

  • Ensuring full management of change compliance for all activities

  • Providing guidance to operations consistent with environmental and operational requirements

  • Assisting in preparation of and maintaining capital and operating expense budget

  • Interfacing with Licensors for technical support

  • Support unit turnarounds including work list identification/justification, procedure writing and reviews, equipment inspection (from operations perspective), etc.

  • Day-to-day support of their respective operating unit to meet short- and long-term operating plans and the refinery business plan

Required Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or related field

  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 or more years of direct experience in refining and/or the chemical industry

  • Ability to establish work priorities based on greatest business needs

  • Understands and uses functional expertise to contribute to the success of the business

  • Strong oral/written communication skills and the ability to interact and work in a team environment

  • Encourages creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement

  • Experience with process simulation programs

  • Computer proficient including applications for word processing, spreadsheets and process database systems (PI)

  • Personally committed to continuous learning and ongoing self-development

  • Possess commitment, dedication, and willingness to support management direction

  • Possess effective leadership, interpersonal and team player skills; the ability to work with and incorporate ideas of other organizations (i.e., safety, maintenance, environmental)

  • Possess the ability to coordinate and provide leadership for multiple issues and prioritize them appropriately given HS&E concerns (i.e., compliance items), business, and personnel needs

The Borger Refinery is located in Borger, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle, approximately 50 miles north of Amarillo, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes primarily medium sour crude oil produced locally, and heavy sour crude oil produced in Canada, all of which are delivered by pipeline. Borger produces a high percentage of transportation fuels, as well as petroleum coke, NGLs and solvents. Refined products are distributed to customers via pipelines from the refinery to West Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and the Midcontinent region.
