Description

The Advanced Process Control and Optimization Engineer is responsible:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor control strategies that improve Refinery safety, profitability and efficiency
  • Provide day-to-day support for process control related issues that impact unit operation
  • Support, maintain and troubleshoot the Honeywell TDC3000 Distributed Control System (DCS)
  • Identify opportunities and develop advanced process control (APC) applications
  • Identify, develop and implement solutions to achieve the corporate alarm performance metrics
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and document existing advanced controls to maximize performance
  • Perform monthly performance metric reporting for advanced process control application and alarm management
  • Complete process control update and design packages required for Management of Change
  • Provide advice, training and present developing initiatives in process control and instrumentation for the assigned area
  • Provide site support for APC and regulatory controls during off-hours with call out duties as needed
  • Identify and develop new control applications by utilizing emerging technologies
  • Review and manage the documentation of system standards, control procedures, DCS architecture and control schemes
  • Work closely with DCS specialists and technicians
  • Participate in refinery improvement teams
  • Support Alarm Documentation and Rationalization (ARA) activities
  • Participate as needed in plant Process Safety Management, by supporting Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), HAZOPS (Hazards and Operability Study), LOPA (Layers of Protection Analysis) studies, action item follow-up and PSSR (Pre-Startup Safety Reviews)
  • Use statistical methods to develop process inferentials for use in advanced controls

Qualifications

Basic/Required :

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 6 months of experience in the job offered or 6 months in a related occupation with a focus in regulatory adaptive controls
  • Must have 6 months experience with each of the following:
  • Statistical filter designs

  • Inferential model-based control

  • Advanced control tools, including Matlab and Simulink

  • Utilize design tools, including HYSYS

  • In lieu of Master’s degree, employer will accept Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering

  • 3 years of experience in job offered or 3 years in related occupation with a with a focus in regulatory adaptive controls
  • Must have 3 years experience with each of the following:
  • Statistical filter designs

  • Inferential model-based control

  • Advanced control tools, including Matlab and Simulink

  • Utilize design tools, including HYSYS

The Borger Refinery is located in Borger, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle approximately 50 miles northeast of Amarillo. The refinery processes 148 mbpd of light and medium gravity sour crudes plus fractionates 30 mbpd of mixed natural gas liquids. The Borger Refinery produces LPG and motor fuels products for the Rocky Mountains, West Texas and Central U.S. market areas. Additionally, the Borger Refinery produces pentane and heptane solvents for specialty products applications.
