The Process Control Engineer provides technical expertise on the Distributed Control System (DCS) and works closely with plant maintenance, reliability, operations and process personnel on all process control issues to implement best practices in the selection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of process control system asset base to ensure that safety, regulatory, production, and optimization objectives are met.
Responsibilities May Include
Providing support and expertise for new and existing Process Control Schemes, such as Regulatory Controls, Advanced Regulatory Controls, and Advanced Process Controls (APC).
Developing Process Control Schemes to improve plant profitability by generating margin and avoiding lost profit opportunities.
Configuring components necessary to maintain control system functionality, including but not limited to basic inputs/outputs, basic to advanced control schemes, DCS graphics, alarms, etc.
Developing, implementing and coordinating process control system reliability improvement efforts, processes and systems, such as:
o Alarm Management – Alarm Rationalization and Alarm Maintenance to ensure alarm efficacy
o Leading or participating in root cause analysis of process control system failures
o Defect elimination of bad actor alarms and control schemes
o Predictive and preventative maintenance plans
o Meeting or exceeding Key Performance Indicators for APC uptime, Alarm Management, and DCS performance
- Participating in designing, commissioning, testing, calibrating and repairing of the following:
o Field instrumentation
o Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
o Programmable logic controllers (PLC)
o Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
o Tank gauging systems
o Graphic interface packages
o Other miscellaneous control systems
o Participating and/or completing Management of Change to support these efforts
- Maintaining the reliability of the control systems in assigned area.
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
Bachelor’s degree Engineering
1 or more years of experience in the refining and/or chemical industry
Proficiency in reading schematics, loop sheets, P&ID's and technical manuals
Working knowledge of instrumentation / electrical systems and control system theory

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
3 or more years of experience in the refining and/or chemical industry
1 or more years of experience in the installation, configuration, use and maintenance of Distributive Control Systems, especially Honeywell Experion
1 or more years of experience in configuring, interpreting, and troubleshooting PLC / SIS logic
1 or more years of experience using or interfacing with Triconex PLC’s, Allen-Bradley PLC’s, and Honeywell Safety Manager
The Alliance Refinery is located on the Mississippi River in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, approximately 25 miles southeast of New Orleans, Louisiana. The singletrain facility includes crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization, aromatics and delayed coking units. It processes mainly light and medium, low-sulfur crude oil. The refinery receives domestic crude oil through a combination of pipelines, marine transportation and terminals. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include petrochemical feedstocks, home heating oil and anodegrade petroleum coke. Refined products are distributed to customers in the southeastern and eastern United States through major pipeline systems and by barge. Refined products are exported primarily to Latin America by waterborne cargo.
