The Technician , Lubricants position within Lubricants Research & Development will be part of a scientific research laboratory team working under the direction of one or more professional scientists or supervisors and will have responsibilities which include the safe operation and maintenance of experimental laboratory equipment and the performance of lab experiments. The Phillips 66 Research Center is located in Bartlesville, OK.

Responsibilities May Include

Maintaining a safe laboratory working environment.

Working safely with a variety of chemicals and lubricant samples to perform assays and formulate solutions.

Setting up, calibrating, operating and maintaining of laboratory, and pilot scale equipment.

Conducting work in accordance with Lubricants Management and Research Management Quality Systems.

Developing of Standard Operating Procedures and Lab Hazard Reviews.

Data collecting, organizing and recording of experimental details.

Experimental system design in collaboration with scientist.

Assisting in evaluation of experimental results for adjustment of conditions and identification of trends.

Operating lab equipment using Excel for data acquisition and reporting of data using LIMS systems.

Applying knowledge and creativity to solve technical problems encountered while completing assigned tasks.

Collaborating in a team environment with scientists, technicians, support personnel, and managers to ensure safe, accurate, and timely completion of individual assignments and team goals.

Position Requirements


Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

High School Diploma or GED/equivalent

1 or more years of relevant laboratory experience (professional or college)

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

work standing for a two (2) hour period

Lift a stationary weight of 20-lbs. from a floor to a bench level

Lift a stationary weight of 5-lbs. from bench level to a shelf 18-inches above bench level

Respond to sound and system fault light alarms

Pour solvents from a 4-L bottle into smaller containers

Manipulate high-pressure gas cylinders, use a cylinder cart, and attach a regulator to the cylinder using a wrench

Use a drum dolly or cart to manipulate drum-sized containers


Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Math, or science related field

1 or more years of experience of laboratory manipulation and calculations

1 or more years of experience in the use of advanced Excel software capabilities

1 or more years of experience in operating and maintaining laboratory testing equipment

1 or more years of experience in wet chemical methods including testing protocols, analytical testing, and instrumental analysis
