Phillips 66 is currently accepting applications for a Lab Chemist Network Lead position within the Business Unit Support organization at the Phillips 66 Research Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The selected candidate will be part of a research team and work closely with lab leads across the refining network. This position directly supports Phillips 66 refining by maintaining stringent fuel certification standards, coordinating test protocol development and implementation as well as ensuring service continuity of the refinery lab network.
Responsibilities May Include
Collaborating with refinery lab personnel to facilitate audit and regulatory compliance activities
Supporting EPA fuel certification compliance
Fundamental research for the development of test protocols
Working with ASTM regulatory committees to facilitate test protocol revisions
Working with team members and customers to enhance detailed experimental protocols
Developing relationships with refinery personnel to understand customer needs and expectations
Evaluating data for QC and develop measures to improve/analyze data quality as needed, including use of relevant statistical analysis software and data visualization tools
Coordinate the Lab Chemist Network monthly meeting
Presenting data in written and oral format to internal audiences
Conducting hands-on research and lab activities as needed, including wet chemistry
Basic Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or science related field
Technical expertise in organic chemistry, analytical chemistry
Strong technical report writing and presentation skills
Focused attention to detail and organizational skillsets
Ability to apply research techniques to make sound, data-driven conclusions
Proven proactive approach to workplace safety
Preferred Requirements
Doctorate degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
5 or more years of experience in an industrial research setting
A strong experimental and theoretical background related to analytical chemistry, preferably in a production lab environment
Expertise in wet chemical methods and analytical techniques
Experience in characterization techniques including mass spectrometry, gas chromatography, ion chromatography, and simulated distillation
Experience with specialized analytical techniques targeted towards crude oil characterization
Demonstrate strong working knowledge of relevant ASTM methods and balloting process
Demonstrate strong working knowledge of EPA guidelines and regulatory frameworks
Strong leadership skills and ability to work well in a team environment
Proven ability to self-start and work alone, as well as work within a team setting
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Willingness to deliver results within demanding time-constraints
