The Bartlesville Industrial Hygienist is responsible for providing industrial hygiene support to the Technology and to the Facilities & Services (F&S) organizations in Bartlesville and Houston. Key roles include providing Industrial Hygiene (IH) leadership and technical support for Technology personnel (research labs and pilot plants) and F&S support personnel and staff; managing the exposure assessment plans; and ensuring compliance with regulations and company requirements. The Industrial Hygienist is also a key member of the Research Center’s Laboratory Hazard Review Team.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Supporting Technology and F&S where needed to address IH/occupational health issues, concerns, and complaints; and to advocate for initiatives to enhance occupational health.

  • Developing and executing the annual Exposure Assessment and IH Monitoring Plans.

  • Maintaining the IH monitoring database; Using the data to regularly report metrics, trends and recommendations to manage exposures.

  • Providing IH leadership during planning and execution of projects, operations, research and maintenance activities, to include review of chemical, biological, and physical stressors and the associated hazard controls.

  • Managing Technology’s Chemical Hygiene Plan and acting as the site’s Chemical Hygiene Officer.

  • Acting as the site’s TSCA officer, responsible for related R&D exemption for new chemicals and import-export requirements and for coordinating with the Phillips 66 TSCA Compliance Coordinator.

  • Managing the Bartlesville sites’ respiratory protection and hearing conservation programs, to include ensuring medical enrollment into exposure-based surveillance program, compliance with medical clearance, respirator fit testing, and ear plug validation testing expectations.

  • Managing the site’s portable gas meter and personal single gas meter programs, to include regularly auditing compliance with calibrations, bump testing, and reporting expectations, as well as working with the vendor to resolve issues.

  • Acting as the site’s IH/Occupational Health Subject Matter Expert (SME) for PSM Management of Change (MOC) proposals.

  • Ensuring contractors working on-site maintain IH programs that meet regulatory requirements and company expectations

  • Conducting annual team reviews and follow up of the site’s Process for Occupational Health Improvement (POHI), to include establishing annual site goals for improvement and documenting progress.

  • Developing and presenting new hire and periodic training that covers company IH programs, regulatory requirements, and general IH awareness.

  • Training and advising supervisors and management in the recognition of safety and health protection procedures and hazard identification.

  • Providing support to the safety and health specialists on safety related issues as needed.

  • Supporting the Bartlesville sites’ Emergency Response Teams.

  • Managing and auditing the site’s IH programs, ensuring they meet regulatory requirements and company safety and health standards and policies.

  • Serving as Laser Safety Officer and alternate Radiation Safety Officer.

  • Providing guidance on the site’s personal protective equipment (PPE) program for chemical and physical agent hazard protection.

  • Providing input on employee, contractor, and community occupational health concerns and complaints, to include conducting community monitoring as needed.

  • Participating on the site’s safety teams providing IH direction and guidance, to include promoting safe work practices and leading by example as part of Bartlesville HSE Team.

  • Networking with department, corporate and other site HSE functions on IH issues, to include participating the corporate Industrial Hygiene Steering Team (IHST) and turnaround support at other locations as needed.

Position Requirements

Basic/Required:

  • Must be eligible to work in the job posting country

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Loss Prevention, Toxicology or Environmental Science or a closely related field

  • ABIH certification as a CIH, BCSP certification as a CSP, or the ability to attain certification within two years.

  • 5 or more years of experience as an industrial hygienist, or as a safety professional managing IH programs

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Demonstrated experience implementing OSHA safety and occupational health regulatory requirements

  • Must be able to:

o Climb stairs and caged ladders

o Work outside in all weather conditions

o Enter confined spaces

o Wear a respirator, including a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Demonstrated experience in conducting IH exposure monitoring

Preferred:

  • IH/Safety experience in laboratories settings

  • Master’s degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program

  • Experience in managing respiratory and gas detection programs

  • Experience with Medgate/Cority and MSDSonline

  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills including the ability to work independently, prioritize activities, meet commitments, and proactively manage time

  • Effective writing skills as it applies to personal communications and report writing

  • Effective verbal communication and presentation skills

  • Strong coaching, team building, and conflict resolution skills
