The Emerging Energy Fuel Cell Commercialization Group at Phillips 66 is excited to announce a new Fuel Cell Production Scientist/Engineer role. This position will support cell production yield, quality, procedure analysis, and scaleup. This position will need excellent working knowledge of tape casting, screen printing, sintering, and other ceramic cell manufacturing processes with a keen knowledge of factors that contribute to consistent quality. The person who fulfills this role will need to work well in a collaborative environment and be able to communicate effectively with team members and other stakeholders through oral and regular written documentation.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Actively contributing to a safe work culture

  • Monitoring and evaluating yield, quality, and other key manufacturing indicators

  • Analyzing operational data to understand cause and effect

  • Troubleshooting equipment and process problems and quickly implementing appropriate solutions

  • Reviewing equipment function to ensure suitability

  • Develop written procedures and participate in auditing and continual improvement

  • Size new equipment and work areas to debottleneck production

  • Sharing insight with other team members through written reports

  • Managing numerous activities and backlog work items

  • Reviewing and providing input about equipment, fixtures, and control systems

  • Participating in failure analysis of equipment or products

  • Ensuring repairs and changes are in accordance with management of change processes

  • Seeking continuous professional development

Required Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in manufacturing, science, or engineering

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety

  • Ability to lift 20 pounds from a floor to a bench level

  • Ability to work standing for a two (2) hour period

  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members

  • 2 or more years or more of experience and practical understanding of ceramic processing

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 or more years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment

  • 5 or more years of professional experience developing work instructions, production planning, and/or monitoring production quality

  • 5 or more years of professional experience manufacturing ceramic fuel cells or similar ceramic products

  • 5 or more years of professional experience tape casting

  • 5 or more years of professional experience working in a clean room manufacturing environment

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new work organizations or experience in a startup

  • Desired attributes include self-motivation, problem-solving, and ability to work autonomously

  • Highly motivated self-starter looking to build a new industry
