The Associate Sc ientist, Batteries will be part of the Energy Transition Research & Development Team located at the Phillips 66 Research Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The main objective for this position is battery technology development.

Responsibilities May Include

  • Overseeing the process of battery design, materials synthesis and characterization, and cell testing.

  • Developing, executing and analyzing results of laboratory experiments.

  • Creating new research opportunities having technical merit and production feasibility.

  • Communicating experimental results through reports and presentations.

  • Collaborating with other individual contributors to achieve project goals.

  • Providing work direction to the technical staff.

Position Requirements


  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country

  • PhD in Materials Science,Chemistry or a closely related discipline

  • 3 or more years of laboratory experience with battery design, materials synthesis and characterization for lithium ion and next generation batteries


  • 5 or more years of experience in industrial battery research and development

  • Hands on experience with battery design, materials synthesis and characterization

  • Fundamental knowledge of battery electrochemistry and its interpretation

  • Strong knowledge of the battery industry and battery technology

  • Cumulative and major GPA of 3.5 or higher for Undergraduate and Graduate degree

  • Strong and proactive approach to safety

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Excellent, demonstrated written and oral communication skills
