Description

The Bench Analyst Position Keeper is primarily responsible for completing daily bench exposure calculations & reports for trading bench purposes, including formulation of hedging programmes for physical cargoes. They will also assist the trading desk with recurring and adhoc tasks to efficiently operate the business and generate income. This position will spend approximately 60% of their time performing the above responsibilities.

Secondarily, they will provide market analysis reports and work with the relevant Global Trading Strategist and other Market Analysts to provide short term forward market views for relevant trading markets. This position is an excellent opportunity to learn the “nuts and bolts” of commodity Physical and Paper Trading and should provide a solid developmental foundation for future Commercial roles.

This position is also expected to provide cover and back up for other Bench Analyst and Position Keeper roles as required.

Primary Functions / Responsibilities

Calculation and completion of daily bench exposure calculations & reports for trading bench purposes, inclusive of:

  • Updating market publication pricing in spreadsheets, processing programme changes and loading in-house hedges into STAR
  • Loading executed hedging and physical contracts into STAR
  • Loading 3rd party spec trades into STAR
  • Producing programme exposure reports
  • Running the P&L from Excel spreadsheets
  • Creating hedging programmes
  • Creating daily hedging requirements and any catch-up hedging
  • Calculating P&L resulting from maximising or minimising cargoes (or operational movements of cargoes)
  • Working with F&PA and Risk to accurately report MTM and P&L
  • Liaison between commodities desk and mid / back office roles
  • Track and forecast inventory
  • Track team key metrics
  • Prepare and track tender documents
  • Work with Risk to develop Daily Risk Reports

Secondary Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Seek to better understand the macroeconomic factors that affect the trading markets, work with the relevant Trading Strategist to develop methodologies to perform fundamental and technical analyses on the global and regional markets and sectors
  • Work with Global and European benches, Trading Strategists and Market Analysts to create database, trading tools, models and perform analyses in support of Physical trading
  • Provide key interface point with other S&T market analysis personnel in support of arbitrage model initiatives
  • Foster strong relationship with information / data sources, i.e. brokers, counterparties and research firms as necessary under guidance from the Trading Strategist and bench
  • Identify, implement, and track business improvement opportunities
  • Prepare ad hoc presentations

Qualifications

Basic/Required

  • Legally authorized to work in the UK on a regular, full-time basis without restrictions on local terms and conditions
  • Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university
