Description

The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer designs and implements process instrumentation and control systems from initial conception through field installation. Responsible for designs that provide the most reliable and cost-effective instrument and control systems. Provides consulting services to process designers in developing process design specifications develops operating and training manuals for mechanical and process personnel and participates in training operating personnel. Writes purchase and construction specifications and writes and performs Factory Acceptance Test. Uses vendor software programs for sizing, safety and control valves. Specifies, procures, and configures Programmable Logic Controllers, Digital Control Systems and field hardware such as transmitters, controllers, pneumatic and electronic transmission system. Utilizes American Petroleum Institute (API) Standards, Instrumentation, Systems and Automation Society (ISA) Standards, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Develops strategic plans for implementing and upgrading instrumentation and control systems. Takes a lead role on capital projects, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs). Identifies areas where instrumentation and controls can improve plant operations and profitability. Develops budget requirements related to system upgrades, preventative maintenance and repair expansions. Uses documentation systems and processes that maintain accurate instrumentation equipment and control system information and drawings. Provides Refinery Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) design and maintenance. Performs Safety Integrity Level (SIL) analysis and engineering upgrades of safety instrumented systems. Up to 10% travel to visit factories for equipment testing.

Qualifications

Basic/Required :

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or Instrumentation & Controls Engineering
  • 5 or more years of experience in Instrumentation and Controls
  • Designing and implementing process instrumentation and control systems from initial conception through field installation
  • Designs and develops specifications for instrumentation and controls including programmable logic controllers and field hardware, including transmitters
  • Applies standards and codes to design and specifications.
