The Director of Projects & Business Improvement supervises the project engineers and oversees the capital projects within Lubes. They also create and lead improvement efforts typically associated with the work processes of the Lubricants Operations and Logistic business and lubricant plants. Sometimes the improvement efforts can branch out to other parts of the Lubes value chain.

Responsibilities may include :

  • Overseeing the execution of capital projects within Lubes, which can be managed either at the plants or by central-based project engineers
  • Managing the capital budget; both via the Long Range Plan for upcoming years, and also the current monthly spend. Included with this will be various re-forecasts through the year, as needed
  • Supervising 3 project engineers and efficiently balance their work loads. The engineers, although based in Houston, will typically engineer and manage projects at all Phillips 66 Lubes plants
  • “Owning” the project work process, which includes educating and training all applicable parties, auditing effectiveness and making changes as needed
  • Developing solutions to organizational issues and concerns; develop organized change strategies and plans; and coordinate/lead project implementation
  • Executing complex process improvement initiatives affecting multiple functions or business departments
  • Collaborating with functional areas to develop and implement improvement projects
  • Interpreting historical, current, and projected data to identify problems, causes and areas for which procedural or system changes are needed
  • Developing reports of overall Continuous Improvement activities including accomplishments, participation, projected activities, and anticipated needs
  • Member of various team & business driven initiatives as needed
  • Utilizing various process improvement tools and methodologies to define activities that are aligned with business objectives
  • Owning relationship and improvement efforts with transportation groups and contractors
  • Actively manage the career development of all direct reports, which includes understanding their strengths and weaknesses and seeking training and new experiences as needed for growth


Basic/Required :

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Significant project experience, including project development, engineering and execution
  • 5 or more years of experience with operating facilities or logistics operations
  • Willingness to travel extensively to various Lubes plants, third-party Marketer and material supplier sites
  • Working knowledge of SAP
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Preferred :

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or relevant field
  • Experience in pulling data and queries from SAP; strong knowledge of SAP functions and capabilities
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with the FEL project work process
  • Supervisory experience
  • Lubricants industry experience
