Description

Phillips 66 is currently accepting applications for a Laboratory Technician position within the Water Research group at the Phillips Research Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The selected candidate will be part of a scientific research laboratory team working under the direction of one or more professional scientists or supervisors, and will have responsibilities which include the safe operation and maintenance of experimental laboratory equipment and the performance of lab experiments.

Responsibilities may include :

  • Maintain a safe laboratory working environment
  • Work safely with a variety of chemicals to perform assays and formulate solutions
  • Set up, calibration, operation and maintenance of laboratory, and pilot scale equipment
  • Development of Standard Operating Procedures and Lab Hazard Reviews
  • Data collection, organization and recording of experimental details
  • Experimental system design in collaboration with scientist
  • Assist in evaluation of experimental results for adjustment of conditions and identification of trends
  • Operate lab and commercial equipment using LabView and Excel for data acquisition
  • Applying education and creativity to solve technical problems encountered during the course of completing assigned tasks
  • Collaborating in a team environment with scientists, technicians, support personnel, and managers to ensure safe, accurate, and timely completion of individual assignments and team goals

Qualifications

Basic/Required :

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • 1+ years relevant laboratory experience, professional or college
  • Willingness and ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform/comply with the following:
  • To work standing for a two (2) hour period

  • To lift a stationary weight of 20-lbs from a floor to a bench level

  • To lift a stationary weight of 5-lbs from a bench level to a shelf 18-inches above level

  • To respond to sound and system fault light alarms

  • To pour solvents from a 4-L bottle into smaller containers

  • To manipulate high-pressure gas cylinders, use a cylinder cart, and attach a regulator to the cylinder using a wrench

  • To use a drum dolly or cart to manipulate drum-sized containers

Preferred :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Math, or science related field
  • 5+ years of experience in analytical testing, instrument analysis, and laboratory testing protocols
  • 5+ years experience in operating and maintaining laboratory and /or process equipment
  • Experience in laboratory manipulation and calculations
  • 1+ years experience in the use of advanced Excel software capabilities
  • Proven proactive approach to safety with a good working safety record
  • Ability to learn use of computer based data entry and control packages
  • Mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
  • Available for occasional overtime on an as needed basis
  • Fast learner, able to recognize the need for non-standard procedures
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures
